Summary:
・Very well crafted Japanese sword made by Kaneshige(兼重) in Kaga(加賀/加州).
・The sword is authenticated by NBTHK(Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai) as “Tokubetsu Kichou Token(Special Valuable Sword)”. The certificate paper is included in the set.
・Koshirae is also authenticated by NBTHK(Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai) as “Tokubetsu Kichou Kodougu(Special valuable props)”. The certificate paper is included in the set.
About Kaneshige(兼重):
・Kaneshige(兼重) was a swordsmith who served the Maeda family that ruled Kaga. Although the Maeda family was a Tozama Daimyo, it was treated in a special way because it was strongly related to the Shogun Tokugawa family.
・This sword is certified by NBTHK as Kaneshige(兼重) from the late Edo period and is rated Tokubetsu Kichou Token as a result of evaluation of workmanship, etc.
Blade:
・The Blade is in very good condition.
・Midareba (undulating blade pattern), a characteristic of Kaneshige, appears very clearly.
Scabbard writing:
・The white scabbard is decorated with a scabbard inscription by KANZAN(寒山). He is an authority on Japanese sword research. Along with Honma Kunzan(本間薫山), Kanzan’s scabbard writing is one of the two greatest of all time in terms of the person applying the scabbard writing. He is known for his dedication to the preservation of art swords, and when he was deputy director of the Sword Museum before his death, fans of Mr. Kanzan would line up to visit him from all over the country.
・The scabbard inscription reads, “This is the work of Kaneshige of Kaga, and measures 2 shaku 1 sun (about 63 cm) in length.”
